Pre-College Programs

The San José State University Office of Pre-College Programs (PCP) continues its award-winning, comprehensive program by providing high quality services that generate in participants (low-income, first generation students) the skills and motivation necessary to persist in completing a program of secondary education and entering and completing a program of post secondary education.

Mission

The mission of Pre-College Programs is to increase student success and accessibility into higher education by coordinating the development and implementation of comprehensive, continuing school-family-community academic and motivation support programs. The Pre-College Programs' model integrates successful retention service programs with strong parental and college intern service learning support to create an academic pipeline that bridges the gap between elementary and middle and middle to high school.

Objectives
  • To identify and select participants;
  • To provide services that increase academic competencies;
  • To disseminate information about the college-going process;
  • To increase the rate of post secondary enrollment;
  • To involve and train parents; and
  • To provide tutor certification.
